If you're wondering how to clean teak furniture, you'll be relieved to hear that it's not an arduous task. Simply following a few easy procedures will have your teak wood furniture - especially patio furniture that has been left outside - looking brand new in no time. With a little time and work, you can clean them up and make them look great.

Don't be misled into believing that you should discard any filthy or neglected teak furniture. That dining set will almost certainly outlast you; teak is utilized in various furniture, architecture, and boat construction because it is very resilient, sometimes lasting decades.

Natural oils in high-quality teak wood protect it from the inside out against insects, rot, fungus, and water damage. The outside of the wood, on the other hand, will get filthy and dusty over time as it stays outdoors. It may also acquire uneven dark grey patches, mainly if kept in a humid climate. Regular cleaning will eliminate all dirt and dust from the teak furniture's surface. It will help brighten the wood by removing any dark stains that have developed over time. Read on to find out what to do.

Get The Right Equipment

Before you start cleaning your teak furniture, gather together everything you need. This includes:

  • Rubber gloves
  • Garden hose with spray nozzle
  • Teak cleaner and brightener
  • A couple of spray bottles
  • Soft-bristled scrub brush

Soak With Water

Before you begin, move the teak furniture to a well-ventilated, shaded location. It is preferable to clean away from direct sunshine so that the wood does not dry up while the cleaners are being applied. Spray your furniture with water for a few minutes with the garden hose to ensure it is entirely saturated. You can use a squeegee to remove excess water from large flat surfaces where water might pool, such as dining tables.

Apply Teak Furniture Cleaner

Using a spray bottle, evenly apply the cleaning fluid to the wood's surface. Then, before starting to scrub, leave the cleaner for a few minutes to begin the cleaning process on the wood.

Scrub The Wood

Scrub the wood's surface vigorously with a scrubbing brush or a big scouring pad. If you haven't cleaned it in a while, the dirt will come straight out from within the grain, mixing in with the suds; this is perfectly normal. Scrub in the direction of the grain if possible.

Rinse Thoroughly

Rinse all of the teak furniture cleaner off the wood's surface using the garden hose.

Apply Brightener

Next, you need to apply the brightener. Check the label on the container to see what the manufacturer's suggested concentration of the cleaner is. You will be surprised to notice how quickly the brightener clears up the hue of the wood.

Scrub the surface of the wood a second time to ensure that the brightener is uniformly activated. By now, your teak furniture should be in excellent condition. Rinse again, and leave for 24 hours to dry completely.
